Pre-trial review for criminal case against Guus K. on 21 December

’s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands, 15 december 2010 - The pre-trial review for the criminal case against Guus K. is to take place on tuesday 21 December 2010.

Guus K. is accused of two types of criminal offences. Firstly, he has been charged with illegal weapon supplies to the regime of Charles Taylor in Liberia between 2001 and 2003 (a violation of the Sanctions Act 1977 and the Liberian Sanctions Regulations of 2001, 2002 and 2003 based on said Act). Secondly, K. is being prosecuted for his involvement in war crimes committed by Liberian forces between 2000 and 2002 (a violation of the Criminal Law in Wartime Act).

Not a substantive examination
The pre-trial review will start at 9:30 a.m. It is a public session that is being held to ensure that the later substantive examination of the criminal case will be as effective as possible. Among other things, both the defence and the public prosecutor will be asked to list their investigation requirements (if any). The decisions made with regard to their requests will be announced by the Court of Appeal in January 2011.

Media registration
Representatives of audiovisual media must register with the Communication & Information Office of the Court of Appeal of ’s-Hertogenbosch at least one day in advance.

On 20 April 2010 the Supreme Court quashed the judgment of the Court of Appeal of The Hague and referred to case against Guus K. to the Court of Appeal of ’s-Hertogenbosch for a new substantive examination.
